This is my personal website. I collect as little as I can, I don't sell anything to anyone, and there's no advertising. Reading the site doesn't require giving me anything.
If you subscribe
I store your email address, the dates you signed up, confirmed and unsubscribed, and a record of which emails were sent to you, so that nobody gets the same post twice. I don't track whether you open emails or click links in them.
If you unsubscribe, your address stays on the list marked as unsubscribed, which is how I make sure you don't get any more. To have it removed altogether, email me.
If you comment
Your name and comment are shown publicly once I've approved them, so please don't use your full name unless you want to. Your email address is optional and is never shown. I use it only to tell you when someone replies to you, and every such email has a link that stops them and deletes your address from your comments.
If you react
Reactions are only counted. Your browser remembers which ones you picked, in its own storage, and I don't store who reacted to what.
Spam protection
To stop bots, the subscribe and comment forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which sees your IP address and some details of your browser. To limit how often one visitor can comment or react, I keep a scrambled version of your IP address that can't be traced back to you, and delete it the next day.
Analytics and logs
I use Fathom and Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. Neither uses cookies or follows you across other sites. The server keeps logs for about 3 days to help me fix problems, and error reports for 30 days. I don't put your name, email address or comment in either.
Cookies and browser storage
This site doesn't set any cookies of its own. It uses your browser's storage to remember your light or dark choice and your reactions, and that stays on your device.
Other companies involved
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores subscribers, comments and reactions. Like any web host, it sees the IP address of everyone who visits.
- Resend sends the emails, so it handles the address of anyone I email.
- YouTube plays videos, but only once you press play, using its privacy-enhanced mode.
- X and Facebook posts embedded in a few articles load from those sites, on those pages only. They have their own privacy policies and may set cookies.
Seeing or removing your information
Email me at hey@pratyushnalam.com and I'll tell you what I have, correct it, or delete it. That includes your comments. I'm one person, so it may take a few days, but I'll get to it.
